Eco Dinnerware

About the company

Set up in 2018, Eco Dinnerware LLP, started small on the outskirts of Bangalore. The idea to start this manufacturing company, came to us when we realized how much plastic pollution there was on Kanakapura main road in Bangalore. We could not believe that so much single-use plastic was out there (not only in Bangalore, but worldwide) and decided to find out how we could work towards educating people about the plastic issue, as well as work towards a solution. What could be an alternative to single-use plastic? what could be composted easily, be biodegradable, and also eco-friendly. That is when we came across Areca or Betel nut palm. Areca products offered the solution! No trees are harmed, they compost within 6-8 weeks, they are biodegradable and eco-friendly. Palm leaf plates also turned out to be very sturdy and resistant to heat and cold, unlike the flimsy single-use plastic plates!

Initially, our team consisted of about 15 people. Soon, however, the team grew to almost 40, and it was time to look for a new place. In 2021, the company moved to its current location in Kaggare, near Tumkur. We are proud to employ the local women from nearby villages and allowing them to better their families’ lives by earning on their own. The same goes for the farmers. we buy locally and ensure that the farmers are paid a fair amount. This, in turn, makes the farmers financially strong, which improves their living situations and their communities as a whole!’
